Make pottery without the wheel!

Design and create your own table scape. Get hands on with slabs to create bowls, plates, cups, handles, and sculptural pieces using both organic and traditional forms. Leave class with your own custom designed table wares and an understanding of the fundamentals of hand building with the slab technique.

Learn the fundamentals of wheel throwing in this 6 week class session. Master the cylinder and create functional and non functional forms. Discover how to trim leather-hard pieces, handle the bisque-firing stage, and apply glazes.

This class is a great start for beginners or returning potters who need a refresher course from being away from the wheel for long periods of time.

Lighten up your fall evenings with some seasonal whimsy.

Create a pair of ghosts using translucent porcelain clay that glows brightly with a light. Leave plain or learn to add sculptural additions that bring Halloween vibes.

Pieces will be fired and ready for pick up within 2 weeks of workshop. Lights included!

OCTOBER 3RD

1-4PM

Explore the Japanese technique of Nerikomi.

Gain hands on experience using two contrasting clay bodies with natural color variation to build your own patterned slabs. You’ll learn how to prepare, stack, slice, and assemble clay to form custom designs and apply them in the construction of a functional object, built with slabs.

By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of Nerikomi and a unique piece that reflects your creative choices.

The studio will glaze (clear glaze) and fire pieces completed in the workshop. Depending on size and dry time, all finished pieces will be ready for pick up 2 - 4 weeks after workshop.

Learn the basics of glaze chemistry in this 2 part workshop. Demystify the process and open up endless creative possibilities by learning how different glazes work and why they do what they do.

Learn and practice different application techniques to create test tiles from a multitude of glazes.

Finish this workshop with your own test tiles to review, study and take home to use as guidelines for your own work.

$150

Class includes test tiles, glaze, study guide, kiln firing and 2 sessions.

1st session: Glaze chemistry lesson and hands on glaze testing. We will load and fire the kiln later that night with test tiles made in the workshop.

2nd session: Review the results and learn the “why’s” & “what’s”.

These open studio labs are designed for those who have completed an introductory class, either here or elsewhere, and want to continue creating semi-independently. They can also work in tandem for those who are currently taking a class but want more time to practice.

A Mudroon instructor will be onsite to answer questions ranging from technique to studio equipment. You’ll have access to pottery wheels, hand building equipment, glazes, clay for purchase, kiln firings, and community shelves for storage of pieces in progress.
